We often get asked, "Are there any good waterfalls near Loch Lomond when staying at Appletree Cottage?"
Recent heavy rain has created some spectacular waterfalls, and now is a great time to see them.
There are several within an easy drive. Up the west side of Loch Lomond, just beyond Tarbert but before Crianlarich, are two within a couple of miles of each other.
The Falls of Falloch, also known as Rob Roy's Bathtub, is right next to the main road, its location shown by a brown tourist sign. Turning off the A82 and parking in the car park, the best viewing point is about one hundred yards along the track. There is even a metal gantry - looking like something out of Jurassic Park - which projects above the cliff, providing an enhanced and safer view.
A couple of miles further south are the spectacular Falls of Beinglas. Situated on the eastern hillside, the falls can be viewed from the car park of the famous Drovers Inn at Inverarnan.
A short walk back up (north) along beside the main road takes you to a bridge. Following the path around the field and past the campsite will take you to the foot of the burn. The journey from there is steep but satisfying, especially after heavy rain, as the path follows close to the burn and the waterfalls.
Over on the other side of Loch Lomond, near Callander, are the very popular Bracklin Falls. Signposted from Callander Main Street, a steep road winds up the hill to a car park. From there, about a quarter of a mile walk along the path will take you to the Bracklin Falls.
As well as the above waterfalls, there are excellent waterfalls at Inversnaid, by the Inversnaid Hotel on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond, The Loup of Fintry waterfall falls at the Black Linn of Blairvaich and those at Campsie Glen So lots of waterfalls to see around Appletree Cottage.
